The Wings over Wairarapa 2003 Air Show celebrated 100 years since the Wright Brother first flew at Kitty Hawk on 17 December 1903. This event is recognised as the first controlled heavier than air flight in history. The Wings over Wairarapa 2003 Air Show included a pageant of aircraft reflecting developments over this first 100 years of powered flight. It was held on Saturday 25th and Sunday 26th of January 2003 at Hood Aerodrome, Masterton.

The flying programme on Saturday the 25th commenced at 12 noon and finished at 4 pm while on Sunday the 26th the airshow commenced at 10 am and finished at 4 pm. Visitors were invited to arrive early to view the array of aircraft, the new SVAS Museum building, memorabilia, and other exhibits as part of the celebrations. A range of refreshments and food outlets was available

The flying programme was intended to begin each day with a flight by an original 1909 Bleriot XI visiting New Zealand especially for the occasion. This classic aeroplane is one of the oldest airworthy aircraft in the world. Other featured displays included a rare 1919 Swedish Tummelisa trainer with a rotary engine, a number of 1920-30s aircraft, a large display of de Havilland types from this famous manufacturer, vintage light planes and trainers, WW2 and other Warbirds, a significant RNZAF contribution, and an aerial topdressing display covering highlights of this major contributor to agriculture.

There were also vintage machinery and military vehicles participating in interactive displays as well as static exhibits. In the main SVAS hangar there was a display by the Kiwi Flightsim Flight Simulation club showcasing some of the most sophisticated flight simulation software and hardware currently available.
